My law school debts are due next month. I don’t even have the option of delaying them.
“Come on, Mia,” I say, doing what I always do now, distracting myself by enjoying Mia’s huge exuberance lust for life… it’s amazing that these characteristics come through in a person so young, but I can already tell she’s going to grow into a strong and important woman with a real devotion to life itself. I just hope her adult love life will eventually work out better than mine has.
It’s all over for me. I’m just going to be by myself forever. I’ll raise Mia, and then I can become a grandmother, and take joy in that.
What am I’m going to do for money in the meantime. I still don’t have a clue.
For the first time all day, I pull out my phone, to check to see if my mom or Joanne have texted me or called. Nope, there’s nothing.
Feeling kind of lonely, without their text messages, I click on the news icon that brings up recent stories in the Boston area.
“Jeff Tallborne…” reads one headline, but I can’t see the rest of the title because of the way the phone cuts off the text.
“I really shouldn’t click on this, Mia,” I say.
But I do anyway.
“Jeff Tallborne proved innocent by new evidence,” says the first line of the article.
Wow, that’s not what I was expecting. But what evidence? What case?
As I keep reading, my excitement grows. There’s some weird feeling in my solar plexus that feels like champagne bubbling up through my body.
“A gas station across the street from the bar where the incident occurred has provided a closed-circuit tape of the incident. When carefully viewed by authorities and the press, the tape clearly shows Jeff Tallborne removing the knife from his attacker.”
Holy shit, and I was really starting to think that Jeff was actually guilty.
My first instinct is to call him and to say—well, I have no idea what I’m going to say, actually.
Just then, my phone rings.
It’s Jeff on the caller ID. I freeze in panic. I’ve been avoiding him for what feels like so long now. All his calls, all his text messages…all unanswered.
Should I pick up? I don’t know. But I know that I need to.
“Hi Jeff,” I say.
“Hi, Lexi,” he says, his voice sounding rough like gravel, sexier than I remember it sounding. It seems like forever since we’ve talked, even though it’s only been, what, a couple weeks?
“It seems like a long time since we talked,” he says.
“I was just thinking that!” I say, my voice sounding excited, even though I don’t mean for it too.
“I was just thinking about you,” says Jeff.
“Jeff, I just saw the article in the paper. I heard you plead guilty, and I figured you had lied to me… I thought you were just…”
“A liar and a thief and all that?”
“A rogue, yeah, basically,” I say.
“Well, I hope I’m still somewhat of a rogue even though I’m innocent,” Jeff says.
“Of course,” I say, smiling widely, forgetting that he can’t see me over the phone. But Mia catches my smile and her eyes smile back.
“So before we move on to something else,” says Jeff. “I want to say that yeah I was innocent there… I just found out about it. I mean, I just heard about the gas station’s tape. I knew I was innocent, but I wanted you to keep your job.”
“You what?” I say.
Jeff explains his plan to plead guilty so that I’d keep my job by winning the case, pushing Fred and his little plot aside.
“Wow,” I say. “I had no idea that’s why you did it. I mean, I guess I appreciate it. Although, it didn’t work. I was fired before that, anyway.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah,” I say. “Fred told them and they fired me. But I realized I don’t want to work for them anyway. They’re a bunch of dicks.”
“Sounds like you’re better off without them,” says Jeff. “But what I wanted to say was that even if I’m innocent about the knife case… I’m still guilty of a whole hell of a lot more. I mean basically every other story about me is true. And it’s true I got arrested for fleeing arrest, and then had an accident.”
“I know,” I say. “I was your emergency contact.”
“Oh yeah,” says Jeff.
“Do you want to come over?” I say.
“Yeah!” he says, hanging up the phone.
What was that?
My phone rings again.
“Hey,” says Jeff. “Sorry, I just got so excited that I forgot I was on a cell phone for a minute. I just hung up to come right over. But, before I come over—well, actually I’ll just talk while I drive over.”
“Sounds good,” I say. “What did you want to say?”
“Well, I just want you to know that all that other stuff about me is true…”
“I already know it is,” I say.
“And you’re OK with it?”
“I’m OK with it being your past,” I say. “I’m not OK with it being your present.”
“It’s not my present now,” he says. “And it’s not going to be my future.”
“Just hang up the phone, Jeff. Concentrate on driving, and come on over.”
“See you soon,” says Jeff.
I hang up the phone and stare at Mia.
Is it really all over? All the turmoil? Am I really going to get back together with Jeff?
Yes, the answer is definitely a resounding yes. I’m going to go with my gut on this one, and my gut is telling me to go with Jeff.
A warm feeling is running through me as I sit with Mia and wait for Jeff to come over.
When I open the door for him, I know I’ve made the right decision. He’s standing there, looking hotter than ever.
But more importantly, he gives me a look that tells me I’m the only one for him, and I know instantly that he’s the only one for me.
My heart is filled with joy, a physical feeling that comes pouring out from my chest, feeling like its connecting me to Jeff.
“Hey,” says Jeff, before leaning in and kissing me, not even waiting for what I’ll say.
I kiss him back, and it’s the most powerful kiss I’ve ever experienced. His lips against mine feel perfect…our tongues connect. But there’s something else to it, something that really truly feels magical in away. All the clichés about the “true” kisses are true.
Jeff’s hand is pressed lightly on my back, and we continue kissing for another full minute, before we break apart.
“Why don’t you come inside and see your daughter,” I say.
Jeff’s face lights up brightly. “That’s all I wanted,” he says. “Is to be part of her life. Not to mention part of your life.”
“I think we’re going to be a good family,” I say.
“That was easy,” says Jeff. “I thought you’d need more convincing. I thought I’d have to make a dramatic speech.”
“I’ve got to listen to my heart, Jeff.”
“So do I,” he says, and he leans down and kisses me again, a long and powerful kiss, one for the movies.
“Come on,” I say. “Someone’s waiting to see you.”
“Hello Mia,” says Jeff, coming into the kitchen behind me, his face completely lit up.
“You excited to see your daughter?” I say.
“I can’t believe she’s mine,” he says, kneeling down to say hi to Mia. “She’s so beautiful. She looks so much like you, Lexi.”
“Really? Every time I look at her, I’m reminded of you.”
“Say hi to your father, Mia,” I say, knowing full well that Mia’s not going to say anything back.
But she does look at Jeff with an expression of curiosity and warmth, her face smiling, her eyes lighting up.
“I think she likes you already,” I say.
“Let’s hope so,” says Jeff. “I know I like her a lot. I know I love
her.”
“I…I love you, Jeff,” I say. I don’t know where I get the courage to say it, except that the whole experience here on the kitchen floor feels so warm and convivial, so familiar, so family-like. It feels like the three of us have been together for years, rather than just a couple minutes.
“I love you, too, Lexi,” says Jeff. “And I love our daughter, too.”
“Oh, Jeff,” I say, tears of joy coming down my face, not making any effort to stop them.
Jeff leans in and we kiss.
Now we hug, staring at Mia together in front of us.
“Look,” I cry out. “Oh my god, she’s walking.”
Mia’s smiling like crazy. She’s finally gotten up on her two feet and she’s toddling towards us.
“Holy shit is that cool,” says Jeff, which makes me laugh like crazy.
“I’ve been waiting forever for you to walk, Mia,” I say, cooing at her.
Mia trips, but she’s so close to us that she falls right into Jeff and he catches her.
“You’re such a cute baby,” says Jeff.
“A cute toddler now,” I say, correcting him.
“That’s right,” says Jeff. “Our very own toddler.”
“Well,” I say. “I’m not sure what the actual cut off is. Maybe the toddler stage comes later.”
“Either way,” says Jeff. “In my book she’s a toddler. I mean, I just saw her toddle, right? Our little toddler, imagine that!”
“Before we know it she’s going to be our little college student, and…”
“And then our little doctor, or lawyer,” says Jeff.
“So we’re going to be spending more time together?” I say, giving Jeff a look, hoping I already know what the answer is.
“I want to,” says Jeff. “I want you and me to raise Mia together. I want the three of us to be a family.”
“I’d love that,” I say.
The rest of the day passes at a good and enjoyable pace. Mia takes a couple more steps and falls once more. Again, Jeff catches her.
Jeff goes out to get some take out Chinese food, promising to drive slowly and carefully. He returns, and we eat it together on the kitchen floor, still enthralled with watching Mia take her first steps, laughing together all the while. I love how Mia picks up on us laughing, and joins in in her own way, with her beautiful baby smile.
The fact that I’ve lost my job doesn’t occur to me once during the rest of the day. All I can think about is that I’m here with my family, the people I’m going to spend the rest of my life with—Jeff and out daughter.
When the day’s over, we put Mia to bed in her crib in her room, and then head into my room, closing the door behind us.
“I’ve been waiting so long for this,” says Jeff.
“What?” I say, giving him a smile. “You think you’re going to get lucky or something?”
“Yeah,” says Jeff, laughing. “I thought I was.”
“Well that’s good,” I say. “Because it’s like you read my mind. That’s exactly what I had in mind, too.”
“Good,” says Jeff, as he walks over to me and kisses me on my neck gently.
I let out a faint moan without meaning too.
“That’s what I like to hear,” says Jeff.
“I need you,” I say.
“I need you, too,” he says, kissing me deeply on the mouth. Our lips connect like they’re being forged together, producing a magical feeling that seems to envelop us both.
We continue to kiss as we fall onto my unmade bed.
“You don’t care that I didn’t make the bed?”
“I only care that you’re naked on it,” says Jeff. “I’d be happy with you naked on the floor.”
“We could arrange that sometime,” I say, pulling his t-shirt off of him. His muscles seem to pop out. His chest is bigger than I remember it, and his arms seem to be more chiseled and his shoulders bulkier.
“You’ve been working out?” I say.
“Only so I could be better in bed,” he says.
“Football didn’t have anything to do with it?”
“You’re much more important to me than football,” says Jeff.
“You mean fucking me is more important than football.”
“Both, I guess,” says Jeff, laughing.
I’m laughing too, but now he’s kissing me again, smothering my laugh with his mouth. I’m kissing his back, running my hands all over his shirtless chest, feeling the steel-like strength of his muscles.
He’s grinding his hips slightly into me, moving his way on top of me.
I reach into the space between us, and unbuckle his belt buckle, and unzip his jeans. His huge cock springs out like it was wound up, just waiting to pop out.
My fist wraps around his hard cock and I lightly stroke his shaft from the thick base up to where the head becomes bigger, right to the little indent.
“That feels good, baby,” says Jeff. “But I’m just dyeing to taste you.”
“Go ahead, dear,” I say, laughing at my use of the word “dear.” It sounds like I’m some 50’s housewife whose husband never eats her out—would never even think of it.
“Great,” says Jeff, springing off of me. He kneels in front of me, still on the bed, his cock pointed up towards the ceiling like a huge sword. He reminds me of some God or some legend, I’m not sure which. I can’t concentrate on thinking about stuff like that right now, because it seems like I can only see Jeff’s glistening and chiseled abs that seem to dance in front of me like some mirage.
I open my legs as soon as Jeff yanks my pants off me. He’s so eager to taste me, apparently, that he pulls my panties off so forcefully that I’m pretty sure I hear some fabric tearing.
“You really can’t wait, can you?” I say.
Jeff shakes his head, not even taking the time to respond to me, before diving his head down.
He licks my legs all over, my thighs, the area above my pussy, and below. Everywhere except my pussy. His rough tongue comes within mere centimeters to my outer lips, which I’m pretty sure are completely wide open now.
I’m ready for him as I’ve ever be. I can feel myself getting hot, immensely hot. My breathing is completely ragged, and he hasn’t even touched me yet with his tongue…not touched me where I need to be touched, that is, where I need to be licked, where I’m dyeing to be licked.
“Stop teasing me!” I say, probably sounding angry from the immense tension. I know he knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s just in love with teasing me right now apparently. “I’ve waited long enough for you,” I say.
His tongue finally contacts my out her lips, and I shudder with the pleasure. Now that he’s made contact, he doesn’t waste any more time, not for a moment, not for a minute, not for a second.
His tongue connects with my pussy in broad rough strokes that slowly go from the bottom to the top.
This already feels pleasurable enough, but now he’s moving inside me a little, somehow using his tongue like a spear.
His tongue connects with my clitoris, which is now just about perfectly ready for contact, as ready as it’s every been.
His hands are gripping my legs, pressing them down to the bed. But I don’t want him to stop…He’s giving no indication or sign of wanting to stop. Btu I can’t take the risk.
I close my legs lightly around him, so that his head is really between my legs.
“I love that,” says Jeff, acknowledging the new position.
It feels so fucking good.
“Oh God, Jeff,” I say moan. “I’m going to come. I’m going to come.”
He responds my only going harder and harder with his tongue, but still retaining the delicate movements that have made this whole experience so tantalizing, making it feel so good.
He pushes a finger inside me, which goes in easily.
This pushes me over the edge.
My back is arching. My hips are bucking. A strong feeling
like electricity runs through me, blasting away the bad memories.
My heart feels like it’s opening up. My vision is going blurry around the edges.
I can’t see anything now. Not because I’ve gone blind suddenly, but because my body needs every inch of brain power available to process the intense pleasure.
The orgasms overwhelms me completely, and I’m barely aware of what’s happening. I’m no longer aware of the world, of finances, of debts, of anything at all except Jeff…Jeff who’s about to fuck me with his enormous beautiful cock that’s rock hard, rock hard just for me.
“Come on, baby,” purrs Jeff. “Come for me.”
That seriously sends me over the edge, and the orgasm peaks in its intensity. I’m moaning wildly and Jeff’s not letting up with his tongue, not even for a moment.
Oh fuck does it feel good.
“I need you to fuck me,” I say, when the orgasm has finally died down enough for me for me to gain control of my mouth enough to speak.
“I need to be inside you,” says Jeff, as a way of answering me.
We’re both completely naked, writhing around between the sheets, which Jeff has pulled over us for a moment. They fall off just a moment later, since we’re both moving so much.
I’m writhing under him, his skin feeling perfect against my own bare skin. He’s moving his hands slowly over my entire body.
Now he concentrates on my nipples, kissing them, holding breasts in each hand by the bottom portion. He’s sucking on my nipples now, while stroking my hair.
His hands seem to come and go magically. They seem to always be just where I want them, or exactly what I would want them to be. But he’s always a step ahead of me, always seemingly knowing my body better than I do myself.
At just the right moment, his cock slips inside me. I love the feeling of his hard thick shaft, coming in all the way to the base.
“Oh God, Jeff,” I moan. “You feel so good.”
Jeff leans down and kisses me.
He rides me hard and fast, not bothering with any of the slow and careful stuff. We’ve done that before. We’ve had our slow and careful time. Now it’s time to go all out, hard and fast so we can to where we’re headed—together.
